Background
Castrol Industrial North America, - as part of Castrol Limited,
is the world's leading lubrication specialist and manufacturer of
the world's best-known engine oil - Castrol GTX. Castrol's parent
company is Burmah-Castrol plc. Burmah Castrol's worldwide lubricants
business has become part of BP Amoco plc following the successful
completion of BP Amoco's cash offer for Burmah Castrol.
103 years old on March 9, 2002, with a reputation for innovation
and high performance engine oils, Castrol North America is an internationally
recognized brand name, operating in 130 countries and employing
more than 12,000 people to develop and manufacture the company's
5,000-strong range of premium quality lubricants for the consumer,
commercial, marine and industrial markets.
Castrol's corporate offices and sophisticated research and development
laboratories are located in Downers Grove, Illinois, a western suburb
of Chicago. Here resources are dedicated to improving conventional
lubricant technology and formulating innovative products and services.
Challenge
Upgrade existing telecommunications infrastructure in both corporate
headquarters buildings and research labs providing seamless voice
and data operations.
Solution
Installed Category 5e structured cabling system in research labs
and back office environments. OPC also installed a fiber optic backbone
distribution system to support these environments. Implemented and
project managed T1 facilities (Carrier Services) providing global
voice, data and video telecommunications to link all sites.
Results
Providing a future-proof, secure medium that supports greater distances
increases bandwidth services and increases transmitting speeds,
while reducing operational and maintenance costs to the client.
